Guwahati: While the city is gearing up for Diwali celebrations, the Guwahati Police has prohibited bursting firecrackers within a 500-metre radius of Guwahati Refinery located at Noonmati.
In an order issued by Ripul Das, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Central Police District, Guwahati stating that lighting firecrackers and bursting crackers in the vicinity of refinery may catch fire as huge quantities of highly volatile and inflammable petroleum products are stored in the refinery and pumped through the oil pipelines passing through the Central police district. Therefore firework or bursting crackers are prohibited within a 500-metre radius of all these installations. And this order will remain in force till the midnight of October 29th, 2019.
