GUWAHATI: Guwahati Police was on the streets from early morning to check any kind of Holi related untoward incidents in the city.
Police personnel were deployed as teams comprising of Police, Transport Department and Traffic Police in all important roads and intersections of the city. Assam Police teams could be seen manning areas of Christian Basti, Guwahati Commerce College, Dispur, Zoo Tiniali and other places.
Anyone found riding without helmets was stopped and fined. Triple rides and drunken driving on motorcycle were also fined. The police have also asked people to be cautious and not drink and drive as it would lead to heavy fines and even imprisonment.
“We kept a close vigil on rash driving and offenders were penalized with fines. We are checking all required documents including helmets. Dispur Police carried out drive in the Christian Basti area of Guwahati,” said Dispur Traffic Police ASI Imran Hussain.
