Guwahati-North Guwahati ferry service suspended

The district administration of Kamrup (Metro) has suspended movement of ferries between Guwahati and North Guwahati for two days from Saturday (May 4). The decision to suspend movement of ferries over the Brahmaputra has been taken in the wake of the Cyclone Fani lashing Odisha and moving towards Assam.

On the other hand, ferry services between Neematighat in Jorhat and Majuli has also been suspended for a day tomorrow (May 4).

The cyclone is expected to lash the State Saturday (May 4) and is likely to be accompanied by heavy rain and strong winds. An alert has already been sounded in the State in the wake of cyclone Fani.

The cyclone that made landfall in Puri earlier today is moving north-northeast wards. It battered the coast of Odisha leading to widespread destruction and devastation.

Three persons have dead so far in Odisa as a result of Cyclone Fani that has now weakened into a severe cyclonic storm and is expected to weaken further into a cyclonic storm.
