Guwahati:  Cricket fans from the region are likely to see a team from Guwahati in the upcoming Indian Premier League IPL. As the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) moves to include two new teams in next year’s IPL, Assam Cricket Board (ACB) Secretary Devajit Lon Saikia stated that the Assam state cricket board is planning to introduce a cricket franchise from Guwahati.

The proposal will be taken up by the Assam Cricket Association at the upcoming annual general meeting of the BCCI.

It is to be noted that the formation of a franchise from Ahmedabad in the upcoming IPL has been confirmed but the other franchise has not been confirmed yet.

The Assam Cricket Association during a function laid the foundation stone of a clubhouse called 91 Yards Club. Similarly, a training program called ‘Pay and Play Scheme’ of the State Cricket Academy has also been launched. Former Ranji Trophy cricketer Badal Thakur was also present on the occasion.
