GUWAHATI, Oct 24: Vijaya Dashami celebrations in Guwahati were soured by a chilling murder case in Hengerabari locality of the capital city with a drunk man stabbing another man to death; all these taking place in full public glare.
Residents staying near the Hengerabari LP School witnessed the drunk youth, later identified as Tileswar Das who has now been taken into custody, stab a man named Khagen Das in the public street, as they froze, appalled and numbed by what they were seeing.
Incidentally both Tileswar and Khagen were e-rickshaw drivers and apparently knew each other well.
Meanwhile, a shocking video has now emerged which showed the murderer kicking and stabbing the body of the victim lying in a pool of blood as residents and onlookers simply remained mute spectators.
“Tileswar had picked up a quarrel with Khagen Das and, in a fit of rage, had stabbed him in his chest and stomach multiple times. Since he had a knife with him, we could do nothing. We tried to dissuade him but he simply threatened us and we could do nothing,” a woman who stayed nearby and was an eyewitness to the crime said.
The video showed the killer kicking the body of the victim and threatening eyewitnesses. “Khagen Das was still alive but Tileswar prevented us from taking him to hospital. We couldn’t even call the police at first since he was threatening people who tried to speak to the police. It was only after sometime that someone could reach out to the cops following which a team from Dispur Police arrived at the scene and took away the body and arrested Tileswar,” she said.
