GUWAHATI: With the beginning of ‘Unlock 1.0’ in Guwahati, the city is likely to register 800-1000 COVID-19 cases on a daily basis, cautioned Assam health minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma.
“We have assumed that this spike will continue till August 31 or September 15. After that it will come down,” Dr. Sarma said after attending a meeting with health department officials at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) on Tuesday.
He stated that the health department has been setting up COVID-19 care centres at Nehru Stadium, Sankardeva Kalakshetra, Royal Global School, Kaziranga School, Delhi Public School and several other locations in view of the rising number of COVID-19 cases. The department targets to accommodate around 10 thousand COVID-19 patients in Guwahati.
“We have been intensifying manpower and facility mobilisation,” Sarma added.
