Guwahati: Law intern who went on late-night Meghalaya joyride with friends dies in accident, family cries foul

A law intern from Guwahati who went on a late-night joyride to nearby Meghalaya with her friends died tragically after their car met with an accident at Ri-Bhoi district of Meghalaya.

Namrata Borah of Komargaon in Golaghat district, who was practising at Gauhati High Court as an intern, had gone to Meghalaya late on Tuesday night with four friends.

The sudden plan Namrata took to go on the joyride turned fatal when their car was hit by a truck at Ri-Bhoi district while they were returning to Guwahati.

Her friends Pragya Borah, Mriganka Baruah, Gayatri Baruah and Anayatul Wadud, son of AIUDF MLA Hafiz Bashir Ahmed Qasimi, were reportedly in the vehicle but escaped with minor injuries.

Incidentally, the young law intern walked out of her apartment at Neha Apartments in Six Mile locality of Guwahati late on Tuesday night where she lived on rent.

Meanwhile Namrata’s family members, who arrived in Guwahati after being intimated about their daughter’s death, alleged foul play and have lodged an FIR at Dispur Police Station in connection with her death.
