Guwahati: Kamrup (metro) district administration issues strict traffic rules for Durga Puja

The Kamrup metro administration has issued new guidelines including strict traffic rules during this Durga Puja.

Strict action will be taken against violators, informed Gautam Das, Assistant Commissioner of Transport and DTO (R&L), Kamrup (metro).

“Driving under the influence of alcohol during this Puja could lead to heavy fines upto Rs 10,000 and the licenses of the violators will be cancelled for three months,” said Das.

While, 486 road accidents were reported in the last four months, at least 145 people have lost their lives in road accidents from the month of January to August this year in Guwahati, the DTO stated to the media officially.

The Assistant Commissioner of Transport and DTO (R&L), Kamrup (metro) Gautam Das has also mentioned that wearing helmets for both the rider and pillion rider during this Puja is a must.

Also, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Hiranya Kumar Barman has urged the drivers not to ply cars in front of the Puja pandals or as per their choices. Four-wheeler vehicles have to be parked only in the parking space provided by the city police.

The Puja committees have been asked not to hold pandals on the streets. Driving on the wrong side will also attract a hefty fine during this Puja.

Meanwhile, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Dhrubojyoti Baruah has directed the Puja committees to apply for a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from both APDCL and PWD.

CCTVs have to be installed in all Puja pandals on a priority basis, stated the ADC.

Further, immersion of idols at Pandu Ghat will not be allowed this year. Apart from that, immersion will take place at Betkuchi, Basistha, Kachari and Sunsali ghats, ADC Baruah stated.
