GUWAHATI, March 23: Bollywood actor Jacqueline Fernandez will perform at an opening ceremony at the Barsapara Stadium in Guwahati on March 26 prior to the IPL tie between Rajasthan Royals and Kolkata Knight Riders.

IPL 2025 got underway at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Saturday (March 22) with a spectacular opening ceremony which included performances by actor Disha Patani, ironically cut short on broadcast by commentators to discuss the inaugural tie, along with performances by Shreya Ghoshal and Karan Aujla.

The BCCI is also planning an inaugural ceremony at the Barsapara Stadium in Guwahati on Wednesday (March 26) before the match between Rajasthan Royals and Kolkata Knight Riders kicks off.

Bollywood diva Jacqueline Fernandez, the Assam Cricket Association said, will be performing at the inaugural ceremony at Barsapara Stadium which will host a total of three IPL matches — two of Rajasthan Royal’s home matches against KKR and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on March 26 and 30 respectively while the ACA Stadium will also host KKR’s tie against Lucknow Super Giants on April 6 after Kolkata Police expressed their inability to provide security for the match following Ram Navami celebrations which fall on the same day.

Meanwhile, there is more good news for cricket lovers of Assam and the Northeast with the Barsapara getting the nod from BCCI to host the first ever men’s Test match in Guwahati.

Barsapara Stadium has been awarded the hosting rights for the Test match between India and South Africa which is scheduled to take place from November 22-26.

Guwahati, meanwhile, will also host at least five matches of the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025, reports further stated although an official confirmation from the BCCI is awaited.
