History sheeter shot at in Guwahati: Romesh Daimary, a known history sheeter, who was out on bail and had tried to rob an elderly lady of her gold chain and other belongings at gunpoint at Jalukbari on the outskirts of Guwahati was injured after he was shot at by police at Chachal while trying to escape from their custody, Guwahati City Police told News Live.
Romesh Daimary alias Raju was arrested along with another dreaded criminal named Mahidul Haque alias Under from Nalbari yesterday (April 29).
Daimary, who is a known history sheeter and has at least 30 cases against him in police stations in and around Guwahati, has been involved in several cases of theft, robbery, kidnapping, vehicle lifting, chain snatching etc.
After he was arrested by a team of Dispur Police, Daimary took cops to Chachal where he said he had hidden a firearm. Upon reaching the spot, he showed cops where he had hid the firearm but suddenly fired at the team of policeman with the pistol forcing cops to retaliate.
Daimary was injured in his leg and is now undergoing treatment at GMCH, Mrinal Deka, DCP East, told News Live.
Incidentally, he was earlier shot at by police at Jorabat on December 3, 2024, when he tried to flee from their custody.
