Guwahati: The prime accused in the Garigaon gang rape case Biki Ali was killed in a police encounter on Wednesday.
According to reports, the police had to fire at least four rounds while Biki allegedly tried to flee from police custody.
Earlier, on Tuesday, Assam police have arrested Biki Ali, one of the five accused in the Garigaon gang rape case. The other four accused who are still on run are Faizul Ali, Pinku Ali, Poona Ali and Raja Ali.
Biki was nabbed from Dampur hills of Kamrup district where he was hiding to avoid arrest.
Last week, Biki and four others sexually assaulted the minor and also filmed her by making videos of the entire incident. A case was registered against the five accused at the All Women Police Station in Panbazar.
The case has been registered under Sections 376 (D) of the IPC, Section 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012, and 67(B) of the IT Act against the five accused.
Following the incident, all the five accused were on the run. A search operation was on and police sources claimed that they have got valuable leads in the case already.
The incident created a stir across the state. City police also came under heavy criticism for failing to nab any of the accused for almost a week. The incident came to light on Friday.
