Guwahati: Five new COVID-19 cases at Gosala with no travel history

GUWAHATI: Five new COVID-19 positive cases have been detected at Gosala, Maligaon in Guwahati on Wednesday. Earlier, Swapna Baruah, a shopkeeper from the same area tested positive for COVID-19. Following that swabs of some local people were tested. Among them five tested for COVID-19 on Wednesday. Reportedly they have no travel history.

“Swab of Swapna Baruah was collected on May 31. But she continued to open her grocery shop,” said a local man.

He also alleged that people in the area had maintained no social distancing to prevent COVID-19 infection.

Earlier on Wednesday, Assam health minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed apprehension saying that community transmission may had taken place in Guwahati.

“The infection in Guwahati has become a matter of grave concern. So far we have found 13 COVID-19 cases at community level,” said Dr. Sarma during his visits to different containment zones in the city.
