GUWAHATI: Dreaded robber who tried to flee from police custody at Jorabat shot at by cops; injured

GUWAHATI, Dec 4: A dreaded robber, accused in multiple cases of robberies and other crimes, has been shot at by Police while he tried to flee from their custody early Wednesday.

Ranesh Daimary was arrested by Dispur Police on Tuesday and was taken to Jorabat on the outskirts of Guwahati city following his confessional statement that two other associates were involved with him in carrying out criminal activities.

While one of the two associates, a robber identified as Fazal Ali, was held yesterday, a team from Dispur Police Station took him to Jorabat to nab the second associate when Daimary tried to flee from police custody.

Cops opened fired at the robber after he refused to give himself into their custody and was subsequently injured in his right leg.

Police said Daimary is a known historysheeter and has been involved in multiple cases of robberies and vehicle lifting cases.

He was also involved in the attack on a woman at Sundarpur after snatching her chain.

He was taken to the GMCH where he is currently being treated for the bullet injury.
