The Guwahati doctor was arrested from the city’s Apollo Hospitals by a team of cops from Dispur Police
A Guwahati doctor has been arrested by Dispur Police from Apollo Hospitals on charges of sexually harassing the minor daughter of a friend.
Dispur Police arrested Dr Bikash Rai Das, a cardiologist associated with Apollo Hospitals, Guwahati, following a police complaint lodged by the minor victim’s mother alleging that he sexually harassed her teenaged daughter at his apartment in Guwahati’s Christian Basti locality.
After the victim’s family lodged the complaint, a case was registered against Dr Das at Dispur Police Station (Case No. 325/25) under Section 354 (assault or criminal force on a woman with intent to outrage her modesty) and 354 A (sexual harassment) of IPC.
Dr Das has also been charged under Section 8 of the POCSO Act (sexual assault against a child).
The accused was evading arrest even after he was summoned by Dispur Police to appear before them. He was finally arrested on Sunday evening from Apollo Hospital by a police team which went in disguise as patients.
