Guwahati: The Deputy Commissioner of Kamrup Metro (M) issued guidelines for the DurgaPuja Committees in Guwahati on September 19.
The administration has asked Puja Committees to conclude all traditional programs by 9 PM.
Speaking during a press meeting, one of the officials said, “Cultural event should be a cultural evening, not a cultural late night. The cultural night should be auspicious, “religious” and not a “commercial type”. All cultural nights should be dedicated to the goddess Durga and it should create a religious environment.”
The instructions state that before organising a Puja, each group must request approval from the local police. The Puja committees have asked that no pandals be built on the streets.
As a basic requirement, CCTVs must be placed in every Puja pandals. Each committee for the Puja must have volunteers.
Additionally, the committees have been instructed to avoid using excessive lighting inside the pandals. The vicinity of the pandals needs to be well-lit.
The regulations added that the banner shall display the names and contact information of the President and Secretary of the Puja committees.
The guideline further stipulated that all pollutants must be eliminated from the materials used to create the Durga statues.
The guidelines state that all cultural events must end by 9:00 p.m. Moreover, the committees asked to refrain from playing loud music.
