Guwahati: CM Sarma visits Assam Khadi and Village Industries Board

Guwahati: On the occasion of the 152nd Birth Anniversary of the Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi, Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma  visited atnd attended a special program organized at Assam Khadi and Village Industries Board.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Dr. Sarma harped on the economic philosophy of Mahatma Gandhi which according to him has the potential to address the economic hardship being faced by people.

He said that Gandhiji fought tooth and nail against imperialism with the help of his social and economic philosophy. His economic philosophy is being increasingly used for economic empowerment of people belonging to different sections. Mahatma Gandhi used Swadeshi for economic renaissance of the country.

Talking about the importance of Khadi, Chief Minister stressed on using it for economic stabilization. Considering the importance of Khadi Board and the role it can play, Chief Minister said that his government is creating a roadmap to strengthen the Assam Khadi and Village Industries Board for promotion of Khadi and other handicrafts. If this is done, it will be a fitting tribute to the Father of the Nation who taught us to be self-reliant.

He also bought a shirt made of Khadi from the stall of Khadi and Village Industries Board.

He also added that the use of textile industry is not a new concern for India and that the Khadi Board required modernity.

Taking to Twitter CM Sarma wrote, “#Gandhi Ji taught us the virtues of being self-reliant. We must continue to pursue his economic philosophy, a sure mantra of progress. At #Assam Khadi & Village Industries Board today, got an opportunity to relish variety of Khadi & handicrafts products. Bought a shirt too!”
