Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday visited and reviewed the site for construction of a Martyrs Memorial and Martyrs Park at West Boragaon in Guwahati.
Taking to Twitter CM Sarma wrote, “Reviewed the construction of Swahid Smarak & Park at Paschim Boragaon in Guwahati, being built in memory of martyrs of Assam Agitation with financial outlay of Rs 180 cr. The construction is expected to be completed by next year. Around 50% work has been completed already.”

“It will have a 13 floor Swahid Smarak, open air theater, library cum auditorium, yoga centre, cycling track etc. There will be a food court with cuisines of NE states & a play area for children. 70% of the site will remain as wetland. Approach road to site will also be widened”, added CM Sarma.

70% of the site will remain as wetland. Approach road to site will also be widened.
Tender for 2nd phase will be floated in next two months & entire project is aimed to be completed within 2 to 3 years. The project will emerge as a major tourist destination.

He was accompanied by cabinet minister Atul Bora and Rajya Sabha MP Pabitra Margherita, alongside senior government officials.
Taking to Twitter, cabinet minister for agriculture, horticulture and animal husbandry, Atul Bora informed that an area of about 100 bighas has been identified in that part of the city for the proposed construction.
The step is being taken to perpetuate the memory of great martyrs who sacrificed their lives during the Assam Movement.
He wrote, “The ‘Martyrs Memorial and Martyrs Park’ is being constructed on about 100 bighas of land in Paschim Boragaon, Guwahati to perpetuate the memory of the great martyrs who made history by sacrificing their lives during the Assam Movement.”

Bora further said that the about 50 per cent work in the first phase has been completed. The CM directed the expedition of the work, added the minister.
