Guwahati: CM Sarma inaugurates new flyover at Arya Nagar (Sarab Bhatti)

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday inaugurated the newly built flyover at Arya Nagar on Garbhanga Road, Guwahati on the eve of Durgotsav.

The flyover is set to ease the traffic congestion in the city.

The flyover has been constructed near Arya Vidyapeeth College in order to ease the traffic for commuters.

The 790-meter flyover has been built at a cost of ₹149.07 cr under SOPD 2019-20. It not only fulfills a long-standing wish of the people of Arya Nagar but will also significantly reduce traffic congestion. Patients of B Borooah Cancer Institute will be particularly benefitted.

The foundation stone of the flyover was laid on February 26, 2021, just before the 2021 Assembly elections. The scheduled time for completion of the flyover was 30 months. The flyover, which should have been completed by August, 2023, has been completed in just 20 months.

Colourful paintings of freedom fighters of Assam have been created in the flyover. People will also get a glimpse of the Battle of Saraighat and the Kaziranga National Park.

Earlier CM Sarma stated that the flyover would be inaugurated ahead of the T20 match between India and South Africa to prevent traffic jams during the match.

Taking to Twitter CM Sarma wrote, “Happy to dedicate to the public the new flyover built at Arya Nagar Chariali on Garbhanga Road, Guwahati on eve of Durgotsav. I thank & appreciate PWD (Roads), M/s Hi-Tech Constructions and everyone involved in the project for completing the construction much ahead of schedule.”
