Guwahati: Finally the wait is over for the book lovers in the state as Assam Book Fair will open its gate from toady (December 29) at the Assam Engineering Institute playground in Chandmari, Guwahati.
This year amid the spike in covid cases in the country, the Assam Publication Board has decided to combine the ‘Guwahati Book Fair’ and the ‘Northeast Book Fair’ into one named ‘Assam Grontho Mela.’
Book lovers have already been missing the book fair for over two years as it was cancelled due to volatile situation in the state over the Citizenship (Amendmnet) Act, in 2019, and the COVID-19 pandemic destroyed dreams of all publishers, printers, and readers the year before.
The 12 days long ‘Assam Grontho Mela’ will be inaugurated by Education Minister Ranoj Pegu tomorrow at 3 pm.
The Book Fair will conclude on January 9, 2022.
According to the board, over 300 books will be available at the book fair this year.
Moreover, the book fair will have around 150 bookstalls.
The book fair will be open from 11 am to 8 pm and the entry of children will be free of cost.
