Guwahati: 7 AEC Students Killed in Road Mishap in Jalukbari

In a tragic incident, at least Seven students of Assam Engineering College (AEC) died on the spot and six others were injured after the vehicle in which they were traveling collided with a divider and later hit a goods-carrying vehicle at around 1 am on Sunday. 

The road accident took place at 1.00 am today when the driver of the Scorpio car bearing the registration number As 01 GC 8829, on which they were travelling, lost control and crossed over a divider before crashing into a Bolero DI pickup van on the opposite lane coming from Guwahati side on Jalukbari Flyover road, sources informed.

Guwahati police said one of the students, Kaushik Baruah was driving the rented Mahindra Scorpio vehicle in which 10 students were returning to their hostel in Jalukbari in Guwahati from Azara side. Police said the speeding Scorpio crossed over the divider and crashed into a goods carrier on the opposite lane coming from the Guwahati side.

Out of the ten, seven died on the spot while three others were immediately rushed to Guwahati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in critical condition.

The following the students who have been killed in the accident:

  • Arindam Bhallal from Guwahati
  • Niyor Deka from Golaghat
  • Kaushik Mohan from Charaideo
  • Upangshu Sarmah from Nagaon
  • Rajkiran Bhuyan from Majuli
  • Emon Gayan from Dibrugarh
  • Kaushik Baruah from Mangaldoi

Those critically injured are the following:

  • Arpan Bhuyan from Jorhat
  • Arnab Chakraborty Bongaigaon
  • Mrinmoy Borah from Jorhat

Moreover, three persons, who were inside the Bolero DI pick up before it was hit, have been also shifted to GMCH in critical condition. Those injured have been identified as Muzammil Haque and Yusuf Ali from Nalbari; Rajib Ali from Barpeta.

Following the incident, the police reached the scene, however, could not save them as they died on the spot.
