Guwahati: The Film Federation of India on Tuesday (September 20) announced India’s official entry to the Oscars 2023.
Gujarati coming-of-age drama ‘Chhello Show’, which is titled ‘Last Film Show’ in English, has been selected as India’s official entry to the 95th Academy Awards.
It has been selected in the Best International Feature Film category.
Earlier it was speculated that either The Kashmir Files or RRR will make it to the list. However, the coming-of-age drama ‘Chello Show’ made it to the cut.
‘Chello Show’, directed by Pan Nalin, will release in theatres countrywide on October 14.
The film, which features Bhavin Rabari, Bhavesh Shrimali, Richa Meena, Dipen Raval and Paresh Mehta, had its world premiere as the opening film at the Tribeca Film Festival in June 2021.
The film shows a nine-years-old boy from Chalala, a village in Saurashtra in Gujarat state of India, who entered a cinema hall projection booth by bribing a cinema projector technician, and watched several films through summer.
The Oscars 2023 is scheduled to be held on March 12, 2023 in Los Angeles.
