GUWAHATI: Assam government has decided to distribute 1 lakh Land Pattas to the indigenous people of the state by 2020, said Assam health, finance and education minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma today at Mangaldoi.
Distributing Land Pattas to indigenous beneficiaries, Dr. Sarma said, “We have started the process from today. Our aim is to provide ‘Myadi’ pattas to 1 lakh beneficiaries by the end of the year.”
“We have been waiting for the report from Committee on Clause-6 of the Assam Accord. It will file a report with the definition of Assamese. We are going to formulate a law to provide land rights to them who will be considered as indigenous according to the report,” Sarma added.
Minister Sarma also announced the decision of speedy eviction of encroachers from land owned by the ‘Xattras’ and other religious organizations under new land policy.
On the other hand, chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal ceremonially distributed Land Pattas to 4,513 landless indigenous beneficiaries in Majuli.
Addressing the public, Sarbananda Sonowal elaborated steps taken by Govt for holistic development of the river island district.
