Govt Schools in Assam to open from 21 September with 50 per cent teaching staff

GUWAHATI: Government schools in Assam will open from 21 September. This was stated by state education minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma. Talking to reporters in Guwahati on Monday, Dr. Sarma said that students of class 9, 10, 11 and 12 can attend the schools from 21 September with permission from their guardians. The minister also said that fifty percent of the teachers will attend the schools for now. On steps to restrict the spread of COVID-19 through schools Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the government will ensure the sanitisation part and the students will have to bring their own masks.

Assam has been severly affected by the spread of COVID-19 like the rest of the country. Though normal business has started in the state, educational institutions have been shut to control the spread to children. The Assam education department has come up with e-learning through various initiatives using computer and mobile applications to maintain the continuity in learning. Overall, the students have been affected as online education is a new development and is not easily available for many students who come from economically poor background.
