Governor attends 3rd convocation of Bodoland University, says varsity contributing to intellectual development, cultural preservation and innovation

GUWAHATI, Feb 17: Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya said that the Bodoland University established in the year 2009 transformed itself into an important centre for higher education, which is playing a crucial role for intellectual development, cultural preservation and innovation.

Addressing the students on the 3rd convocation of the university in Kokrajhar on Sunday, the Governor said that the university in a span of 15 years, has carved a niche in higher education, research and development. He acknowledged its role towards the academic development of the people of Bodoland Territorial Areas and its contribution towards cultural preservation and innovation.

The Governor congratulating the students who received degrees on the occasion said that earning degrees on the day of convocation amount to celebration of academic achievement of the students. He asked the successful students to cherish their academic journeys, as the degrees they received symbolized not only their personal growth; it also gave them the opportunity to create a lasting impact on the society they belong.

Speaking on the transformative power of education, Governor Acharya asked the students to inculcate the ability to adapt themselves with the changing time, learn and grow throughout their lives. He called upon the students that receiving degrees give them bigger responsibility, which is giving something to the society in return. He asked them to empower the society and contribute to the creation of empowered human resources.

Stating that the Bodo language, literature and culture are very rich, the Governor acknowledged the contributions of the Bodo language and literature towards enrichment of the huge repository of India’s literary and cultural heritage. He on the occasion, paid his rich tributes to Gurudev Kalicharan Brahma and Bodofa Upendranath Brahma.

Speaking on the supreme power of knowledge the Governor said, “Knowledge is not simply the accumulation of facts; it is the key to progress and the foundation upon which civilizations are built.” Referring to Bhagavad Gita and Rigveda, the Governor said that knowledge forms the essence of human civilization, which empowers individuals, contributing to a brighter future. The Governor, therefore encouraged the degree holders to seek knowledge in various forms, including practical wisdom, emotional intelligence, and cultural awareness.

Referring to Swami Vivekananda, who said, “every individual is complete in themselves, and education is the medium to manifest that completeness”. Governor Acharya, therefore, asked the students to render themselves in the pursuit of education and try to make their life better with the fruits of education.

Speaking on the changing landscape of knowledge, Governor Acharya stressed on the importance of integrating ancient Indian knowledge with modern advancements.

Speaking on the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, he said that NEP 2020 is the first integrated policy in the present century which seeks to harmonize ancient knowledge with modern education. He stressed that the NEP will help transform India into a global knowledge powerhouse, balancing tradition and modernity.

The Governor also highlighted the importance of skill development, research, and innovation, and asked the students to embrace lifelong learning. He particularly encouraged young women to pursue studies in science, technology, and engineering, contributing to national development and the country’s future growth.

It may be mentioned that altogether 16494 candidates were conferred degrees by the Chancellor; out of which, there were 79 PhD, 7 MPhil degrees, and 55 gold medals respectively.

BTC CEM Pramod Boro, Bodoland University Vice-Chancellor Prof BL Ahuja, faculty members, students and other dignitaries were present during the convocation.
