GUWAHATI, Nov 24: Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma claimed that the victory in Samaguri has given him justice for the attack on him by Congress goons that took place at Mowamari panchayat in Samaguri constituency on April 4, 2016.

Chief Minister Sarma, who went live on Facebook yesterday night after the BJP-led alliance swept the by-elections winning all five seats in Assam, said the victory in Samaguri was special and that the win has given him justice for the attack on him ahead of the 2016 elections when a section of Congress goons attacked him when he went there to campaign for BJP’s candidate Jitu Goswami.

“I had went to Samaguri constituency on April 4, 2016, to campaign for BJP’s candidate Jitu Goswami. You can see in the video how workers of the Congress had attacked me at Mowamari Panchayat. We had to flee to save our lives. I believe that people of Samaguri have given me justice today,” Chief MInister Sarma said, displaying a video of the attack.

“Rakibul Hussain, the present MP of Dhubri Lok Sabha constituency, was the then MLA of Samaguri. I was hoping to get a call from him after the attack and that he would express his displeasure on what had taken place. It’s not unusual since political leaders, irrespective of party affiliations, do keep in touch with one another. Today I feel that I have been given justice by people of Samaguri since the BJP has been able to get a substantial number of voted in Mowamari panchayat,” the Assam Chief Minister added.

He further said he would keep his promise of visiting Samaguri after the results are declared and that he will visit them very soon.
