Goods trains collide head-on in Jharkhand; loco pilots killed, 4 injured

GUWAHATI, April 1: Two goods trains collided head-on in Sahebganj district of Jharkhand in the early hours of Tuesday killing the two loco pilots while injuring four others, reports said on Tuesday (April 1).

“The drivers of both the goods trains were killed in the head-on collision,” news agency PTI quoted Sahebganj sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) Kishore Tirkey as saying.

The two trains were being operated by National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) and the collision took place near Bhognadih in Barhait police station area around 3 am Tuesday, reports said.

“Driver Dnyaneshwar Mal (35) and Ambuj Mahato (35) have died in the accident,” Sahebganj SP Amit Kumar Singh was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.

The tracks on which the accident took place are owned by NTPC and used for transporting coal to its power plants.
