Golden girl Hima Das in the pile of controversy!

After winning hearts of thousands of people across the country, the golden girl of Assam, Hima Das has come under controversy. The Athletics Federation of India (AFI) has made its displeasure over Hima’s commitment to the sport. Hima has not yet reported at the national athletics coaching camps organized by AFI from October 10 in Patiala.

On October 1, the AFI has advised all athletes, coaches and support staffs to report on 10th October 2018 at their respective camp venues. But the Assam Express Hima Das yet to report at the national camp. This could land Hima in serious troubles such as ban from the AFI to participate in International Competitions like Tokyo Olympics in 2020.

“The AFI has advised all athletes, coaches and support to report on 10th October 2018 at their respective camp venues. Athletes and coaches who fail to report at camps on time will not be considered further and in certain cases may not be considered for selection in International Competitions,” read an AFI statement.

The AFI president, Adille Sumariwalla expressed grief on Hima’s commitment to the sport; while the AFI secretary CK Valson said, “Next year we have two major competitions. First we have Asian Athletics Championships from 19th to 24th April and then IAAF World Championships from 28th September to 6th October 2019. Both competitions will be held in Doha, Qatar. We will shortly release our domestic calendar which is being prepared accordingly.”

It should be noted that after winning medals at the Asian Games, 2018, Hima joined Indian Oil as an HR officer. She was also awarded with the Arjuna Award that she received from the President of India followed by several other awards. She also has been endorsed by top sporting brand Adidas.
