Goat thief compels Assam villagers, police personnel to go for quarantine

GUWAHATI: Residents of a village in Hajo area under Assam’s Kamrup district have been quarantined for a bizarre reason. Some police personnel have also been compelled to go for quarantine. The reason behind such an unexpected situation is a goat thief.

On Sunday night villagers at Baranghati village in Hajo caught red-handed two thieves who had entered the village to steal goats. Some of the local residents also showed their muscle powers on the two thieves identified as Helimuddin Ali and Jeherul Islam.

Later it came to light that one of the thieves—Helimuddin Ali is under home quarantine after his return from Tamilnadu. Therefore, the villagers who had assaulted the thieves will have to undergo quarantine as a precautionary measure against COVID-19. Some police personnel who had arrived on the spot to arrest the thieves will also be under quarantine.

According to reports, the two thieves are now under police custody.
