GMCH doctors, nurses dismiss COVID-19 patient Amarjyoti Deka’s allegations

GUWAHATI: In a viral audio clip, Amarjyoti Deka, a COVID-19 positive patient at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in Guwahati made sensational allegations that he is not receiving proper care and treatment. The audio clip which was a conversation with his family members sparked sharp reactions across the state of Assam. However, the doctors and nurses at GMCH have dismissed the allegations as completely baseless.

Talking to News Live, Dr. Tanveer who looked after the patient said, “He was anxious and not cooperative from the initial period. He was becoming aggressive later. He used to say that he is not COVID-19 positive.”

The doctor also stated that Amarjyoti asked for his wife as attendant which was not allowed. The doctor informed News Live that the patient was given all the necessary care and treatment.

“Amarjyoti Deka removed his diaper and ran naked on the corridor. He created an unruly situation. He misbehaved and threatened us,” said another doctor.

She also mentioned that psychiatry doctor found the patient as alcoholic.

“There is no lapse in his treatment and care. He remains stable at evening and night, but becomes aggressive in the morning. A female staff can’t go alone to attend him, we have to take a male staff with us,” said the doctor.
