Gitashree Dowerah Khargharia, who had been absconding for nearly two and a half months after her father-in-law Rajani Khargharia committed suicide following the death of his wife Ruby (Gitashree’s mother-in-law), allegedly due to want of medical treatment, surrendered at the Sivasagar Chief Judicial Magistrate’s Court today (Sep 13). She has been sent to two-day police custody.

Gitashree and her husband Debashis were accused of not looking after their aged parents (Gitashree’s in-laws) and that led to the tragic death of Ruby and the subsequent suicide of Rajani Kharghoria.
Police later recovered a five-page letter written by Rajani Khargharia and addressed to his son in which he wrote how Debashis and Gitashree ill-treated them.
Police had earlier on July 19 arrested Debashis — who had been on the run for 19 days — from Six Mile locality of Guwahati.
