Guwahati: Victor Das who was in Assam Police custody from September 9 for spreading false rumors over selection to the Grade III and IV posts of the Direct Recruitment examination that was held across Assam on August 21 and 28 was granted bail by the Gauhati High Court on Friday morning.
Victor Das, a teacher at a private coaching centre in Guwahati, was arrested on September 9 by Assam Police.
Victor Das tweeted allegations of bribes being demanded for jobs in the recently held direct recruitment exams in Grade III and IV government posts.
In his tweets, Das raised the issue by tagging the chief minister, Assam Police, DGP Assam and GP Singh (Special DGP in Assam) and alleged that a ring is demanding bribes from Rs 3-5 lakhs from each candidate for ‘backdoor appointment’.
Following his explosive tweet, Special DGP (Law & Order) GP Singh had replied to his post asking for proofs into his claims.

Police had even called Victor Das to the Panbazar police station, where he was interrogated over his big claims.
Upon interrogation by the police, Das could not furnish any relevant proof of the information that he had circulated over social media. The police ultimately arrested Das, and the court sent him to police custody for seven days.
