From July pay Rs. 1200 daily for visiting Bhutan

GUWAHATI: Keeping in mind the ecology and the impact on its environment due to tourist footfalls the Bhutan government in Thimpu has passed a legislation making it mandatory for visitors from India (regional tourists) to pay of fee of Rs. 1200 per day. On Monday, Bhutan’s lower house of parliament passed this legislation.

The Bhutan government has termed it as “sustainable development fee” meant for regional tourists of India, Maldives and Bangladesh.

This legislation will no doubt impact the tourist footfall in Bhutan as majority of budget tourists visiting Bhutan are from India. Assam also shares many tourist entry points as it shares border with the Himalayan Kingdom. Rest of the tourist entry points from India are in West Bengal and Sikkim.
