Man-elephant conflicts have taken alarming proportions in Assam with at least four persons trampled to death by marauding elephant herds in Karbi Anglong and Udalguri districts. While three persons – two women and a minor boy – died at Bagichadubi under Kheroni police station in west Karbi Anglong, another person was trampled to death by jumbos at Borengajuli in Udalguri district early Tuesday morning.
The three persons who died in west Karbi Anglong has been identified as 12-year-old Mohit Chauhan, Lakhiya Devi and Purnima Thapa.

Meanwhile, jumbo herds continue to stray into villages in various other parts of the State. People in Numaligarh and Samaguri are passing sleepless nights after wild elephants herds stray into villages to feed on ripe paddy crops.
Forest officials on many occasions have also been accused of not answering to SoS calls of villagers.
On the other hand, the carcass of an elephant was recovered in Dibrugarh district while a baby calf was also found near the carcass. The calf was later handed over to forest officials. Another injured elephant also died at Samaguri.
