Four Assam Rifles troopers killed, six injured in Nagaland ambush

PUBLISHED:

Four Assam Rifles troopers were killed while six others were injured when a group of NSCN(K) and ULFA(Independent) militants ambushed their vehicle near Aboi in Mon district of Nagaland on Sunday afternoon, the ULFA(I) claimed.

Heavily armed militants threw a grenade at the vehicle carrying the Assam Rifles troopers and later resorted to indiscriminate firing in which four troopers were killed. The NSCN(K) and the ULFA(I) have separately claimed responsibility for the attack.

The slain jawans have been identified as Naik Shyam Bahadur, rifleman Alam Hussain, GD Konyak and Havildar Fateh Singh Negi, reports said. Among the injured troopers include Sachin Kumar and Dilip Singh.

Although the security personnel retaliated, there are no concrete reports on casualty among the militants.

The Assam Rifles, however, claimed on Sunday that only two of its troopers were killed in the ambush and that the injured jawans were rushed to the Jorhat Medical College Hospital.
