Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal today (Jan 6) laid the foundation stone of the Kokrajhar Medical College at Besorgaon, Kokrajhar, in the presence of State Finance, Health and PWD Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. BTC chief Hagrama Mohilary, Rajya Sabha MP Biswajit Daimari, cabinet ministers Chandan Brahma and Pramila Rani Brahma, BTC deputy chief Khampa Borgoyari, other senior officials of the Assam government and the BTC were also present in the foundation stone laying function.
A ceremonial Bhumi Pujan was also held on the auspicious occasion. The medical college in Kokrajhar will be the 11th medical college in the State and the first in Boroland Territorial Area District (BTAD).

Along with 500-bed hospital, a 100-bed cancer hospital under Tata Trust & Assam Government and another 100-bed Mother & Child Hopsital will be set up within the same campus. The Nursing College, construction of which is already underway, will also be an annex institute of the Kokrajhar Medical College, Himanta Biswa Sarma announced in his speech after the foundation stone was laid.
Chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal announced that the Kokrajhar Medical College will fulfil the hopes and aspirations of the people of BTAD and that with the foundation stone being laid, the long-standing need for a state-of-the-art medical college in BTAD areas has been fulfilled. He also termed the day as a red letter day in the history of BTC and hoped that the proposed medical college will be able to impart state-of-the-art medical education using advanced technology to students, especially those belonging to BTAD areas.
Construction work of the medical college will begin within 15 days.
