GUWAHATI, Jan 3: Former Union home secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla was on Friday sworn in as the new Governor of Manipur.
Bhalla was administered the oath of office and secrecy at a solemn function at Raj Bhavan in Imphal by Chief Justice of the High Court of Manipur, Justice D Krishnakumar.
Bhalla was name the full-time Governr of Manipur and replaces Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya, who was holding additional charge of Manipur.
The swearing-in ceremony was attended by Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh, State Assembly Speaker Th Stayabrata, former Chief Minister Ibobi Singh, Manipur DGP Rajiv Singh, ministers of the State cabinet, MLAs and other senior government officials.
Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh, meanwhile, extended his best wishes to the new Governor saying he “looks forward to working together towards a peaceful and prosperous Manipur under his leadership”.
