GUWAHATI: Former Sonari MLA and ex-Rajya Sabha MP Bhadreswar Buragohain passed away at the Dispur Polyclinic in Guwahati on Wednesday night after prolonged illness.
Buragohain was elected to the Assam Assembly from Sonari on an AGP ticket in 1985 and also served as the Deputy Speaker of the Assam Legislative Assembly.
He was later elected to the upper house of Parliament in 1990.
Buragohain was closely associated with the Assam Agitation.
Assam CM Sarbananda Sonowal, Finance, Health, Education and PWD minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, State BJP president Ranjeet Kumar Dass, BJP AGP president Atul Bora, Jorhat MP and former Sonari MLA Topon Gogoi and a host of political leaders expressed grief at the demise of Bhadreswar Buragohain.
His last rites were performed at the Nabagraha crematorium.
