GUWAHATI, Dec 18: Former Jawaharlal Nehru University student leader Umar Khalid, arrested in September 2020 in connection with the Delhi riots larger conspiracy case, has been granted interim bail by a court for seven days.
The bail has been granted to the former JNU student leader allowing him to attend a family marriage function, reports said.
Khalid, along with fellow detainee Sharjeel Imam, have been charged under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and various IPC sections for allegedly orchestrating the February 2020 riots in which 53 people were killed and over 700 injured.
Police maintain he was one of the masterminds of the riots that broke out following protests against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act.
