Former DIG PK Dutta main accused of paper leak case on the run; 150+ candidates appeared in secret exams

 GUWAHATI: The  Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Assam Police picked up three accused on Wednesday in connection with exam paper leak for the posts of SI in Assam Police. The investigation also has brought to light the involvement of many other high profile people. Former Assam DIG P.K Dutta who is said to be the main mastermind in the leakage of the question paper is on the run. Details of around 150 candidates appearing in a secret exam a day before the actual date for the SI jobs has come to light. The investigation started after the order of Assam CM Sarbananda Sonowal.

According to reports, Assam Police SI jobs were offered to candidates in exchange for up to Rs.15 lakhs. A secret written exam for 50 candidates for the post of SI in Assam Police was conducted in Thankyou lodge in Ganeshguri, Guwahati on September 19, a day before the actual date of the test. A hand-written question paper was also recovered from the lodge.

An AGP minister is also involved in the incident and according to his direction, another exam was conducted in a house in Sundarpur area of Guwahati. At least 100 candidates were present in the house said the reports.

Assam Police and Crime Branch investigations are underway and the team is trying to nab Dutta as soon as possible. The investigating team besides raiding Dutta’s residence at Rupkonwar Path in Hengrabari for hours also raided his two hotels including Bhargav Grand near the Inter-State Bus Terminus (ISBT) and another hotel in the Lokhra area of Guwahati.

Assam Police officials informed that the AGP minister’s name will be revealed and he will also be arrested soon.

Earlier, the investigating team questioned  Assam BJP leader Diban Deka for his involvement in the leakage of the question paper.

Meanwhile, three persons have been picked up for questioning in the cases.

It is to be mentioned that the examination had commenced across 154 centers across Assam on Sunday noon when it had to be canceled after authorities took cognizance of the alleged leak of the question paper on social media (Whatsapp groups).
