Assam’s highest civilian award ‘Assam Baibhav’ for the year 2024 has been conferred to Former Chief Justice of India and Rajya Sabha MP, Ranjan Gogoi.
He received the honour for his notable work in the field of law and justice.
The award was conferred by Assam Governor Gulab Chand Kataria at a ceremony organised at the Srimanta Sankardev Kalakhetra in Guwahati on Tuesday.
Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar and Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma was also present at the award ceremony.
Gogoi headed the Supreme Court bench that pronounced the judgement in the Ramjanambhumi-Babri Masjid case in 2019.
Being the first judge from the Northeast to occupy the august office of Chief Justice of India, this award recognises his exceptional efforts to expand the delivery of justice and enrich the jurisprudence.
