Foot overbridge collapses in Mumbai, at least 5 injured

At least five persons were injured after part of a foot overbridge collapsed at Andheri in Mumbai Tuesday morning following heavy rainfall. The bridge connects Andheri East and Andheri West stations and is used by thousands of commuters everyday.

Part of the bridge collapsed around 7:30 in the morning forcing cancellation of trains running through the route. Railway Minister Piyush Goel has announced a probe while the injured persons are being treated in nearby hospitals.

The crash damaged a portion of the platform roof, blocked railway lines and damaged high-tension electric wires and overhead power equipment, reports said.

On the other hand, life was thrown out of gear in several areas of the country’s financial nerve centre following heavy rains and waterlogging.
