GUWAHATI: Major parts of Kaziranga National Park in Assam have been inundated by the floodwater induced by the incessant rains in the last few days.
“The flood situation is turning grim. If the water level of the Brahmaputra continues to rise like this, then around 80 per cent areas of the park will be submerged,” a forest official said.
Many wild animals including the famous one-horned rhinos, deers, buffalos, and elephants have taken shelter at highlands constructed inside the park. On the other hand, many animals are being seen crossing the National Highway 37 which passes through the national park.
The authorities have restricted the speed limit of the vehicles plying on the NH 37.
The forest department has also been keeping vigil in the park as poachers increase their activities during the floods.
