GUWAHATI: A first-of-its-kind conference of Assam Police Officer-In-Charge of all police stations was held under the chairmanship of chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday. The event titled ‘Redefining policing standards in Assam’ held at Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra was attended by the Assam Police top brass and OCs of police station.

Addressing the officers Himanta Biswa Sarma stressed on improving the standards of overall policing. The chief minister gave clear instructions to the officers to clean their areas of all criminal activities that happen because of the station’s permission or under the instructions of seniors. “You are under no compulsion to listen to anyone when it comes to cleaning your station area. Your primary task should be to file chargesheets of cases and take it to the level of conviction. You should try to ensure that there are no pending chargesheets. You should always be working on cases and deciding ways to lower criminal activities,” said Himanta Biswa Sarma.

The number of cases disposed of, the number of chargesheets filed and the number of convictions should be the primary aim of the station officers, said the chief minister.
