‘Final Battle of Saraighat has begun’

Assam Finance, Health & PWD Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma Thursday launched a scathing attack on a section of intellectuals as well as groups and organizations opposing the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill as he reiterated the party’s commitment to safeguarding the interests of the people and that the BJP-led governments both at the centre and in the State will never compromise on promises made to the people. Stating that the “Final Battle of Saraighat has begun”, Sarma accused a section of organizations and individuals of taking the side of suspected infiltrators.

He further reiterated that the BJP would implement the 6th Clause of Assam Accord that will ensure safeguards for indigenous Assamese communities in terms of reservations in jobs and other fields apart from claiming that the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill will turn out to be a boon for Assam and its people.

The Assam Finance, Health & PWD Minister further made a significant statement and announced that he will not be active in Assam politics after 2021. His announcement comes amid speculations of him playing a larger role in national politics.

Sarma also asked winning panchayat members, who were felicitated at the function at the Sarusajai Stadium, to work for the people and dessiminate among them information regarding the good work done by the BJP-led government.

He also reiterated that the BJP is working steadfastly towards making Assam rank among the top States of the country. He also slammed the Congress and the AGP claiming that the Congress no longer has the might to fight with BJP in electoral politics while the AGP is fast going into oblivion.

Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, Assam BJP president Ranjeet Kumar Dass, other ministers of the Sonowal cabinet, MPs and MLAs and hundreds of party leaders were present at the rally where the newly-elected panchayat representatives were felicitated.
