GUWAHATI: “Filmfare Awards Ceremony has been organised as a part of government’s attempt to divert people’s attention from Anti-CAA Agitation across Assam,” said All Assam Students’ Union chief advisor Dr. Samujjal Bhattacharjya.
Expressing his resentment on the awards ceremony to be held on February 15 in Guwahati, Bhattacharjya said, “We are not against the artistes from Mumbai. But government has donated Rs. 30 lakh to this private event.”
“Jyoti Prasad Agarwala was the first filmmaker of Assam. Has this organisation done anything for Jyoti Prasad?” Bhattacharjya questioned.
While popular singer Zubeen Garg came out in support of the Filmfare Awards 2020, a section of artistes and a civil society group opposed Assam government’s move to host the awards ceremony.
