Film fraternity, cine buffs hail Govt move to hold Filmfare Awards in Guwahati

Guwahati: The Film fraternity, cine artistes and movie aficionados in Assam have hailed the Assam Government’s move to bring the Filmfare Awards to Guwahati. Several actors of the Assamese cine industry and movie lovers of Assam and the Northeast have welcomed the move, terming it as a big step towards attracting Bollywood to the region.

“Holding the Filmfare Awards in Guwahati will definitely be a major booster for the Assamese film industry besides attracting Bollywood directors to shoot films in locations in Assam and the rest of the Northeast,” Trishnav who is a big fan of Bollywood movies, told News Live.

The reactions came after Assam Tourism Development Corporation (ATDC) Chairman Jayanta Malla Baruah announced yesterday that the decks for Guwahati to host the gala awards have been cleared and that Assam Tourism Development Corporation (ATDC) will sign an MoU with the Times Group on Nov 25 at Taj Vivanta around 11 am.

Signing of the MoU will pave the way for organizing the 65th edition of the National Filmfare Awards at Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium at Sarusajai tentatively on February 15, 2020.  The announcement was made by Jayanta Malla Baruah, Chairperson, Assam Tourism development Corporation Ltd. According to ATDC Chairperson the sole purpose of holding the Filmfare Awards function in Guwahati is to promote Assam’s huge tourism potential by involving Bollywood. He said since the State will give all logistics to the organizer, the event will highlight Assam as one of the best tourism destinations in India. He further added that he will let the media know about all the details of the Filmfare Event after singing the MoU.

Staying true to its reputation of being the most fashionable night of the year, the red carpet will surely witness all the bollywood biggies such as Megastar Amitabh Bachchan, the Badshah of Bollywood Shahrukh Khan, Deepika Padukone,  Anushka Sharma , Alia Bhatt etc.

Filmfare awards begun in the same year of the inception of National awards in 1954. Filmfare Awards are considered the most prestigious awards of Bollywood.
