Female elephant, calf mowed down by speeding train near Mariani; another pachyderm injured

A female wild elephant and her calf were killed after being hit by Rajdhani Express near Kharikatia railway station of Mariani in Assam’s Jorhat on Sunday, October 9.

At the same time, another elephant narrowly survived the incident but is critically injured and waiting for medical assistance.

Locals informed the media that it has been 12 hours but no one from the forest department has come to rescue the injured elephant.

The locals are preparing to perform the last rites of the female elephant and her calf who were killed in the accident.
