Farm announces home delivery of fresh pork in Guwahati, goes viral on WhatsApp

GUWAHATI: After the Assam Government has lifted the African Swine Fever (ASF)-induced ban on sale and consumption of pork in the State, a farm namely Grassroot from Khetri in Kamrup (Metro) district has announced the sale and home delivery of fresh pork. The farm will provide home delivery of the dressed pork in Guwahati on Sunday. The message which is being widely circulated on WhatsApp has caught the attention of the pork lovers.

“The selling of pork will be done only after being certified by veterinary doctors.  We will sell the meat following all the rules and regulations of the government. Pork lovers can place their orders on or before May 30,” said Mridushman Chakravarty, owner of the Grassroot Farm.

He stated that customers have to pay Rs. 350 for a KG of pork.

“We have received tremendous response from the customers. We have closed taking orders for this first effort. For those whose requests we couldn’t meet, we will call them in coming week. We are reachable at 9435144562 and 6003315825 mobile numbers,” said Chakravarty.

“It is certainly a good news after the ban of nearly two months. It is quite assuring as they are selling the meat which will be certified by the doctors,” said a pork lover over phone.

Following the outbreak of African Swine Fever (ASF), ban on selling and consumption of pork was imposed in affected districts of Assam. The ban was lifted in the State on Tuesday.

State animal husbandry minister Atul Bora said that over 15,000 pigs have died due to African Swine Fever in Assam till Tuesday.
