Farhan Akhtar, Rakyesh Om Prakash Mehra have high hopes on Toofan

Guwahati: Sports-centric movies have always been in trend for Bollywood. Films like Chakh De India, Jo Jeet Wohi Sikandar, Bhag Milka Bhag has proved to be blockbuster movies.

A few days ago Farhan Akhtar-starrer Toofaan’s trailer was released. The film narrates the story of Aziz Ali (Akhtar) who rises from the ashes, not once but twice. Farhan’s Aziz is introduced as a small-time goon who looks up to Muhammad Ali but aims to become Amitabh Bachchan of the boxing world.

“It’s the journey that matters,” says Farhan Akhtar to put his upcoming movie Toofaan in perspective, while drawing parallels with the last outing, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, with the same director, Rakyesh Om Prakash Mehra, and the fact that it is again a sports drama.

The film stars Mrunal Thakur opposite Farhan Akhtar and people will get to see Paresh Rawal, after a long time, in a never-seen-before-role of a boxing coach. Paresh says, “I thought of myself as a fit person before saying yes to the project and starting training for the role. I have never done a role that is so physically demanding. I even tell my children at home that had I done all this 12 years back, I would have been a totally different person! Just 15 minutes training for boxing took my breath away and mind you, I am person who can jog for one hour!”

Mrunal, who is playing Ananya, calls it a slice-of-life offering and adds, “I always wanted to work with Rakeysh and the film is a dream-come-true journey. My role is that of an open-minded, passionate girl and who is just part of many motivating factors that are needed for a person like Aziz (Farhan) to shine through and recognise his talent. I have kept my mother as the point of reference to do justice to this role as she has played the same role in my real life.”

However, soon the tables turn. As Aziz basks in success, he is outed as a traitor to the sport and banned for 5 years. Now, Farhan returns to the ring, this time to fight for redemption.

Ahead of the release of Toofaan, Farhan Akhtar took to social media to unveil a special glimpse into the passionate actor owning the demanding role for the film. The makers of the film have released a special behind-the-scenes video that gives fans a sneak peek into what actually went into making this power-packed film.

Sharing the video, Farhan wrote on Instagram: “Training to be a boxer. It took about two years to bring the boxer persona to life. This wouldn’t have been possible without the belief & support of this amazing team.”
