GUWAHATI, Feb 16: Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma has expressed anguish over the loss of life in the stampede at New Delhi Railway Station Saturday night.
Chief Minister Sarma took to ‘X’ after reports of the tragic incident came to light last night, and expressed his grief while also praying for the speedy recovery of the injured people.
“I am extremely anguished by the terrible news coming in from New Delhi Railway Station. On behalf of the people of Assam, we offer our deepest condolences to those who have lost their loved ones in the stampede. Our thoughts and prayers are with those who have been injured,” he wrote on ‘X’, formerly Twitter.
At least 18 people, including 11 women and five children, were killed and many injured in the stampede that took place at the New Delhi Railway Station late Saturday night.
The tragic incident took place following a sudden rush of passengers who were on their way to the Maha Kumbh as they assembled to catch a special train to Prayagraj.
